Hey, Boy Scouts of America,
Yes, I too was a gay Scout. It saddened me Beyond Belief when I was asked to leave as an adult when I came out. I was an Eagle Scout, Senior Patrol Leader, Summer Camp Commissioner, Aquatics Staff, Camp Cook, Summiter of Mt. Baldy at Philmont and Assistant Scout Master. So many of us miss the organization that was tossed over to the Mormon Church and screwed up royally in the late 1980’s. Please bring back justice to all of us who loved your program. Here is me in 1987 at Philmont Scout Ranch.
Not only that, I am a 3rd generation Eagle in my family with Grandfather, father and myself. I was an outstanding camper and brotherhood member of the Order of the arrow, and even attended two National Jamborees! We were always there, you just did not know it. We deserve to be back in.
Me with my dad at maybe ten years old in 1980? Giving dad his pin for one of my awards — i think at that point it was probably first class… or is that still a tenderfoot badge on my chest?
I am a proud, successful, 43-year-old gay man who lives openly and honestly. I spent a quarter of my childhood and young adult life in scouting, and it instilled in me a distinct moral compass, a highly collaborative character, and an endless curiosity and appreciation for the world around me.
